Take the SAT or ACT early enough to allow time for retakes if necessary.

Standardized Testing:

Build a Strong Application:

Gather and organize your homeschool transcripts. Some colleges may have specific formats they prefer.

Ask mentors, tutors, or community leaders who know you well to write letters of recommendation.

Write a compelling essay that highlights your unique experiences and perspective as a homeschooled student.

Colleges appreciate well-rounded students. Engage in volunteer work, clubs, sports, or other activities.

Demonstrate leadership in any groups or activities you are involved in.

Extracurricular Activities:

Academic Preparation:

Take challenging courses, such as AP classes or dual-enrollment courses at a local community college, to demonstrate your academic readiness.

College requires strong study habits and time management skills. Practice these during your homeschooling.

Research and apply for scholarships and grants. Many are available specifically for homeschooled students.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for financial aid.

Financial Planning:

Social Preparation:

Join social groups or take part in community activities to develop your social skills.

Attend any pre-college orientation programs to meet new students and learn about campus resources.

Decide whether you will live on-campus or off-campus. Each option has its benefits and challenges.

Take advantage of tutoring, counseling, and other support services offered by the college.

Adjusting to College Life:

By following these steps, you can effectively prepare for the transition from homeschooling to college and set yourself up for success in your higher education journey.
